The Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications (MEWC) was established on March 27, 2004 following Malaysia's new cabinet line-up, hence replacing the Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia.The Ministry's role is to administer and manage the nation's energy, communications (infrastructure), postal services and water functions.The role of the Ministry has shifted from being a service provider to a policy formulator and service regulator for the Energy, Water and Communications sectors. The Ministry's main thrust is therefore to facilitate and regulate the growth of industries in these sectors to ensure the availability of high quality, efficient and safe services at a reasonable price to consumers throughout the country. The regulatory function of the Ministry is undertaken through its regulatory bodies, namely, the Energy Commission and the Communications and Multimedia Commission.Our Vision is to be the principal catalyst for the development of a dynamic and robust energy, water and communications industry in the country. Our Mission is to develop and formulate strategic and innovative policies, self-regulatory framework and establish a vibrant, effective and efficient management system.
